A native Windows broadcast application for UCI chess engine tournaments is now available under a controlled trial and rental model. This is not a sale of software and it does not involve any transfer of source code, ownership, or development rights. The project remains the exclusive intellectual property of Jorge Ruiz Centelles and is offered only for operational use under defined contractual conditions.
The system has been developed from scratch using JavaScript, Node.js, HTML, CSS, WebSocket-based real-time transport, JSON-based state handling, and PowerShell orchestration for deployment and tournament control on Windows hardware. The purpose of this architecture is to provide a native and flexible broadcast environment without relying on third-party graphical interfaces such as Cute Chess or ChessGUI for the public relay layer.
Why a One-Month Trial Period Makes Sense
The one-month trial period is designed to allow a serious technical and operational evaluation before entering a longer rental arrangement. The trial is priced at 50 euros for one month, plus the implementation work required on the client’s hardware, plus the cost of the domain if the client decides to use a dedicated domain rather than a subdomain.
During that month, web hosting is offered without additional hosting cost from my side for the user’s UCI engine tournaments. This allows the client to assess practical questions that matter in real conditions: whether the chosen hardware is sufficient, whether a public broadcast attracts regular visits, whether the project can help generate community growth, whether it can support memberships or affiliate activity, and whether more than one tournament can be sustained in parallel depending on machine resources.
The trial period is therefore not presented as a promotional offer, but as a verification stage. It allows the user to evaluate the software under live conditions before deciding whether the infrastructure, workflow, and audience potential justify continued use.
Trial Terms and Monthly Rental Model
The software is offered under a rental structure.
During the first month, the user pays:
- 50 euros for the trial month
- the implementation work required on the user’s hardware
- the price of the domain, if a dedicated domain is chosen
After the trial period, the software moves to a monthly rental model of:
- 70 euros per month for the software rental
- optional technical support at 30 euros per month
- if support is not required, the rental remains 70 euros per month
This model is important because the software is not sold. It is made available under limited operational use. The intellectual property, architecture, and code remain exclusively owned by Jorge Ruiz Centelles.
Confidentiality, Source Code, and Intellectual Property
Any trial deployment should be governed by a written confidentiality agreement. The software is proprietary and its source code, internal logic, deployment methods, and broadcast architecture are not public. A client who rents the software for the trial period should not be permitted to disclose, copy, redistribute, publish, transfer, or expose the source code or confidential know-how to third parties.
From a legal perspective, that confidentiality approach can be grounded in the EU and Spanish framework for trade secrets and confidential business information. At EU level, the central reference is Directive (EU) 2016/943 on the protection of undisclosed know-how and business information. In Spain, that framework is implemented through Ley 1/2019, de Secretos Empresariales, which expressly regulates the unlawful acquisition, use, and disclosure of trade secrets.
For the software itself, Spain’s official intellectual property guidance states that computer programs are registrable works, and the Ministry of Culture’s Intellectual Property Registry provides specific guidance for registering software, including source-code submission requirements. It is a native Windows application stack designed specifically for UCI engine broadcasts, with direct control over the public relay environment, user-facing interface, chat layer, voting features, and tournament presentation logic. The aim is not simply to display games, but to provide a broadcast environment that can be adapted to the user’s infrastructure and operating model.
That matters in practice. A more rigid platform may impose external dependencies, recurring infrastructure costs, or third-party interface limitations. A native Windows-based solution can instead be deployed around the client’s own hardware, with flexibility determined primarily by actual machine capacity and network conditions rather than by a fixed third-party GUI design.

Depending on the available hardware, the system can run multiple tournaments in parallel. Each tournament requires its own domain or subdomain. A domain requires purchase and registration, while a subdomain may often be created without additional cost, depending on the client’s hosting structure.
